Job description

The Database Administrator position is in support of Oracle and SQL Server Databases. Experience in MySQL, NoSQL, and GCP Spanner databases is a plus.

- The DBA should have the ability to visualize, architect, and manage the implementation of best practice operational procedures and processes that are appropriate to handle the growth and support of the company with a desire to learn other database platforms.

- The candidate is expected to be a detail-oriented self-starter with high standards who would also lead by example in fulfillment of job responsibilities. In this dynamic, fast-paced environment, the DBA will collaborate with various application teams in support of new initiatives and the existing DBA team members to maintain database availability and performance in support of the business.

- The candidate will support development and production database environments for both On-Prem and Managed Could solutions; participate in the production on-call schedule for 24x7 support and prepare supporting documentation for major system events and project initiatives.

The DBA will be responsible for the following areas of database administration :

1) Installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, replication management, problem triage, and backup/recovery.

2) Participate in performance, capacity and scalability analysis and planning for both existing systems and new initiatives.

3) Setting and maintaining standards, policies and procedures from an operations perspective supporting enterprise databases.

4) Ensure clear and concise monitoring and altering requirements for all database implementations.

5) Communication and coordination with internal and external facing vendors/departments.

6) Recommending infrastructure enhancements/changes to improve existing products/services and/or reduce internal costs.

7) Preparation of root cause analysis documentation and follow-up communication.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

- OLTP and DSS DB Design for On-Prem and Managed Cloud Solutions

- Experience with Windows and Unix (Solaris and Linux)

- Experience in Oracle 12c, Exadata, Golden Gate, Data Guard, RAC, GRID Control, RMAN, Netbackup, Shell Scripting

- SQL Server 2008R2 and later, AlwaysOn Failover Cluster, Active/Active Failover Cluster, Database Mirroring, Replication, and Log Shipping, Reporting Services and Analysis Services

- Proficient in performance troubleshooting and tuning.

- Proficient with use and interpretation of these tuning tools: Automatic Workload Repository (- AWR- ), EXPLAIN plan, autotrace.

- Knowledge of PL/SQL and SSIS packages, procedures, triggers, and functions.

- Preparation of performance reports and assessment of load metrics.

- Preparation of segment space reports.

- Familiarity with auditing concepts and PCI requirements.

- Knowledge and ability to translate entity relationship diagrams into physical data models.

- Assist in the establishment of procedures and processes for the following: Backup/Recovery, Database Maintenance, Patch Management, Applications Support and Job Scheduling.

- Participate in infrastructure upgrades and new database roll-out projects.

- Interact with business units, programming staff, other technical staff and outside vendors.

- Documentation and updates of processes, procedures and system events.

- Evaluate current processes and procedures; recommend efficiency improvements.
 

Required Candidate profile

QUALIFYING EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :

- 5+ years of DB experience

- Working knowledge of Unix, Windows and networking concepts

- BS in Business or Computer Science or equivalent experience and technical certification

- Ability to distinguish, organize and adjust priorities as project requirements change

- Project Management and Reporting Skills

- Effective oral & written communication skills

- Familiar with preparing and reviewing technical documentation

- Experience with using MS-Project, MS-Excel

- Ability to work effectively with people from various departments and skill sets
