Job Description:
Responsible for managing the functionality and efficiency of one or more operating systems. Duties may include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software, validating and implementing critical system patches, and allocating mass storage space. Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products. Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery. At the more senior (exempt) levels, this family evolves into the development of policies and standards related to the use of computing resources, overall strategy, design, implementation, and operational aspects of multiple systems, operating environments, and related software. Schedules, plans, and oversees system upgrades. Develops functional requirements through interaction with end-users and coordinates with the development team on systematic enhancements or changes. (It should be understood that this is not intended to be a detailed nor comprehensive description of any individual employee's job content. Managers set the specific duties and responsibilities for each employee).
SCOPE:
Performs a variety of moderately complex assignments associated with monitoring and controlling computer operating systems. Sets up and maintains computer systems. Analyzes system faults and troubleshoots and runs diagnostic tests on operating systems and hardware to detect problems. Evaluates and installs developed software during various phases of testing. Reviews and prepares documentation for systems, tests and installation of software. Investigates and selects methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Performs preventive maintenance on the operating systems as well as repair to system/environment problems. Administers systems/environment solutions for multiple projects with varying schedules. May interface with vendors for trouble calls.
Requirements:
· 3+ years of experience in a Linux Administration role
· 3+ Years experience hardening Linux in a DoD STIG environment
· 3+ Years experience developing POAM
· Working Knowledge of Change & Configuration Management.
· Strong problem solving abilities with an analytic and qualitative eye for reasoning under pressure.
· Self-starter with the ability to independently prioritize and complete multiple tasks with little to no supervision
· Ability to script in two or more of the following computer languages Python, Bash, JavaScript or Powershell
· DoD 8570 IAT level II or higher certification.
· Candidate must be a U.S Citizen and able to obtain ADP I Position of Public Trust clearance
Job Duties:
Work with several external customer groups to develop system requirements, design associated solutions, and implement those solutions.
· Administering Linux operating system for a distributed Splunk platform
· Coordinate with local change and control boards and provide installation, configuration, engineering, administration, and accreditation documents/diagrams for the infrastructure life cycle replacements upgrades, enhancements, and new technology deployments
· Coordinate with Operations and Splunk teams all schedule patches
· Harden systems to meet DoD security requirements
· Maintain Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM) compliance on all servers
· Develop Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M)
· Monitor, organize and work collaboratively in a technological environment to support an established collaborative work environment
