Role: Senior Network Engineer

REMOTE

Duration - 6 Months

 

Job Summary:

As a Senior Network Engineer in the Data Center networking group, you will be responsible for design, configuration, implementation, maintenance and identifying continuous enhancement opportunities of various data center network services across the Ernst & Young environment. These services and related offerings are based on solutions supported by various networking products, technologies from industry leading and innovative vendors across Data Center, Campus, Branch Office, SD and Cloud environments. Additionally, you will provide consulting services to other IT teams, and act as a level four escalation point for operational issues.

 

Essential Functions of the Job: Major responsibilities/duties

Technical Competence

  • Experience in Cisco Switching and routing technologies including Nexus platforms.
  • Experience in DC spine-leaf switching infrastructure based on Cisco, Arista, Dell, white and bright switches and similar platforms. Strong Knowledge in DNS/DHCP, Load Balancing (Citrix Netscaler/F5).
  • Knowledge in scripting using Python or other equivalent languages, automation engines like Ansible and solid understanding of DevOps fundamentals including automation frameworks.
  • Handle complex long-term and short-term Data Center focused projects involving multiple service towers.
  • Translate business needs into technical requirements. Identify gaps, strategic impacts, financial impacts and the risk profile in the technical solution or offering, and provides L4 escalation support.
  • Create designs based on industry best practices, sound solid engineering principles incorporating both local and global requirements while clearly understanding that one size does not fit all.
  • Evaluate new technological developments and evolving business requirements and recommend to client and IT management appropriate technological alternatives.
  • Provide high-level specialized technical support and consultation to business and IT management.
  • Provide technology expertise for all facets of data networking to enhance quality and facilitate superior solutions which meet business requirements.
  • Develop design and configuration documentation to be used by the Regional Network Domain and Operations teams for implementation and support.
  • Work with the portfolio and service delivery teams to provide consultancy expertise towards developing Business Case and BOM Estimates. Collaborate with appropriate teams to create and gain approval on global technology standards and reference architectures on an ongoing basis.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for configuration guidelines and templates. Act as a consultant to the other teams for network portfolio.
  • Research and keep abreast of industry trends and new technology offerings by strategic vendors. Drive and complete technical network deliverables on assigned projects.
  • Administration
  • Maintain responsibility for individual resource utilisation whilst working on projects, meeting defined capacity models and providing regular utilisation reporting.
  • Ensure compliance in an ITIL environment and kClient performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Ensure full and correct time capture on a weekly basis for all project and administration work to allow effective management reporting.

  • Ensure compliance with infrastructure design methodologies during project work with both the Service Delivery and Regional Network Domain teams. Perform project tasks independently, and as needed direct the efforts of others.
  • Participate in projects providing technology expertise in designing, configuration and ongoing support and maintenance. Anticipate client needs and formulate solutions to client issues.
  • Gain adherence to architecture standards and principles, global product-specific guidelines and local regulatory requirements. Achieve "first-pass" check of accuracy and quality in solutions design and implementation.
  • Manage own personal and professional development, seeking opportunities for expansion of technical skills and experiences. Help the firm to further automation and software defined initiatives.
  • Coach junior staff.
  • Help the firm to achieve excellent ratings during internal and external audits.

 

Qualifications, knowledge & experience

Qualifications

  • A degree in Computer Science/Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • Industry accreditations like CCNP, CCIE or higher

 

Knowledge

  • Advanced skills in planning, configuring and troubleshooting complex network environments.
  • Core expert knowledge into Data Center products and solutions (Cisco ACI, Nexus, VPC, Fabricpath, FCoE, OTV etc.), spine-leaf netowrk infrastructure based on multi-vendor environments (Cisco, Arista, Dell, wihite and bright switches etc.), routing protocols and features (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VXLAN, BGP-EVPN etc.),
  • Proficiency on Linux, Python and one or more other scripting languages (Powershell, Perl, TCL ). Proficiency with Automation and DevOps orchestration tools like Ansible, Puppet or Chef.
  • First-hand knowledge and experience in designing network related aspects of Data Center for large scale enterprise environments, Public cloud, Cloud Exchanges and future proof Private Cloud solutions.
  • Experience in designing and implementing enterprise network solutions in data centre environments including routing, switching ; application networking and delivery technologies (data centre server  and global load balancing solutions); WAN, Internet connectivity & related technologies (SD-WAN, MPLS, IPSEC VPN, WAN Optimizers, Rate Limiters, QoS, etc.); Infrastructure Services (DNS, DHCP and Active Directory); Network Monitoring & Management Platforms (Monitoring – Operations, Management – Data Network Domain).
  • An understanding of Software Defined offerings in relation to data centers.
  • Exposure to various facets of converged data center and branch office build-out including planning, designing and implementation of facilities and structured cabling solutions.
  • First-hand knowledge in building network solutions to enable integration of VMWare, blade, cloud and converged network environments. Knowledge of various perimeter security solutions technologies in data center environments including firewalls, remote access VPNs, IPS/IDS systems and Secure Web Gateway solutions is desirable.
  • Strong ability to document processes, procedures and network designs clearly and accurately for distribution to internal teams.
  • Maintain awareness of new and emerging technologies and the potential infrastructure service offerings and products provided by the industry. Understanding of other technologies required to run an enterprise level infrastructure.

 

Experience

  • Substantial, extensive and demonstrated experience in various aspects of technology infrastructure implementation, with tangible, relevant and demonstrated experience in delivering projects within scope and budget.
  • Experience in a high-volume or critical production service environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with external vendors and suppliers in the network industry. Demonstrated skills in developing actionable roadmaps and implementing these efficiently,
  • Strong experience in network and systems security, not only a kClient understanding of overall concepts, but also the ability to implement policies, processes and develop solutions to network and security problems.
  • Proven ability to understand infrastructure requirements and translate them into solutions including developing designs, device configurations, IP addressing and switch port schema, providing solutions and support to various cross-functional teams.
  • Good understanding of kClient performance indicators relevant for the role.
  • An overall understanding of the business objectives of Service Lines and Core Business Services departments. IT service delivery, direct business engagement, and multiple technology domains
  • Work with the ITIL methodology in the area of process engineering
  • Work with IT services or technology product companies or as vendor manager or procurement manager

Job Requirements: Education:

A degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent working experience.

 

Experience:

Substantial, extensive and demonstrated experience in various aspects of technology infrastructure implementation, with tangible, relevant and demonstrated experience in delivering projects within scope.

10+ years in a senior networking function which includes at least 1 year of experience with Automation and DevOps solutions as it relates to networking.

Certification Requirements:

Industry accreditation desirable (Examples: MTA, MCSA, MCSE, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CCNP, CCIE). ITIL Foundation certification.
