JOB DETAIL

Sr. Project Manager

Location: Augusta, ME.

Client: State of ME

This is a long contract scheduled to last at least a year. 

The candidate will need a minimum of 10 years of Project Management experience.

Senior Project Manager’s responsibilities will be:

1. Team Collaboration

a. Working with business operations and project team to develop and manage a prioritization process for all incoming work requests

b. Coordinate and facilitate technology-driven requirements and conceptual design planning

c. Working with assigned Sponsor/Managers and core team to ensure project resource plan is clear, complete, and achievable; communication plan is complete and accepted; schedule is clear and reasonable

2. Project Management

a. Core project monitoring and controlling tools are in place: scope management, detailed schedule, communication plan, risk management plan

b. Perform resource planning based on scope, priority, and capacity; working within a matrix management environment

c. High level of rigor to clear potential impacts to project milestones

d. Ensure project’s priorities, progress, status, and challenges are communicated on a recurring basis to a broad audience in concise manner

e. Ensure communications are design and relevant to the targeted audience and purpose

3. Leadership

a. Lead the project team through fact-based processes to support good decision-making

b. Courage to challenge issues and roadblocks; confidence to challenge assumptions

c. Commitment to ensuring core team and sponsorship know where the project is going and why

d. Drive resolution efforts to remove barriers

4. Technical acumen

a. Possess experience needed to understand, participate, and contribute in technical discussions

 

Key Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities of the resource
• Accountable for the approval and sign-off of the project plan
• Accountable for management of scope for the project and gaining agreement and approval of scope changes and priorities
• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and customer representatives
• Direct work planning and scheduling design work
• Manage, and track the project progress against the project plan
• Serve as the primary point of contact for all project-related issues and resolution of issues
• Coordinate and present proposals to Stakeholders as necessary
• Identify and manage project risk and develops risk mitigation strategies, track to closure
• Ensure team leads adjust and revise estimates when necessary
• Anticipate issues and proactively address them. Resolve conflicts with sensitivity and tact.
• Coordinate the establishment of project standards and project specific procedures with team leads
• Responsible for project compliance with standards and procedures
• Responsible for the capture and reporting of required project management metrics
• Responsible to tailor and baseline all project templates
• Develop and facilitate achievement of project service commitments and performance metrics
• Ensure that tasks provide value and support the strategic direction of the project and meet service commitments
• Accountable for the final project management evaluation review with stakeholders for approval upon project completion
• Identify and track issues
• Balance workload with project members’ capacity
• Communicate to team members how their work assignments relate to and help achieve project objectives
• Plan project specific training and orientation needs

Skills:
Required and desired skills of the resource
• Project Management; Expert, 10+yrs.
• Experience in working within Vendor supplied software
• Experience in partnering with external, yet critical, IT support structures such as: Application Support, Server Support, etc
• Expert in scope, schedule, risk, and communication management processes
• Ability to develop a ‘customized’ prioritization process based on business objectives
• Strict discipline to assess, monitor, and control project risks
• Strong planning skills; able to create detailed schedule, monitor and drive progress against the schedule
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience gathering level of effort (LOE) data as related to scope of project
• Experience in developing all required assets to execute a project plan: Scope & Schedule Mgmt plan, Risk Mgmt plan, Resource plan, Communication plan
• Strong facilitation skills
• Highly organized and problem-solver
• Proficient in MS Project, MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint, MS Teams
