Sybase Database Administrator

Exp: 7+ Yrs

Visa Status: EAD, GC, USC & TN

This is a remote work from home role. 

6 month contract and have a high chance of extensions long term.

 

Minimum Qualifications

•             Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Systems Analysis, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

•             Recent experience administering a current release of one of the following platforms: IBM’s UDB (DB2) on AIX, Microsoft’s SQL Server, Sybase’s ASE on AIX, or MySQL on Linux.

•             Ability to write and understand advanced SQL.

•             Ability to resolve performance issues with databases and the underlying systems.

•             Experience with cloud database platforms.

•             Experience with Agile methodologies.

•             Experience with coding and development practices.

•             Ability to perform conflict resolution.

Notes:

Blue KC is looking for two Sr. DBAs to help them move out of Sybase

This team is heavily integrated in all areas of Blue

Well versed in security. Scripts, automation, queries, writing stored procedures, reviewing code and ADO.

Familiar with UNIX and Windows

Exposure to Azure and vendor installed software

Their DB2 runs on AIX

MySQL, SQL Server Replication

Active Directory knowledge

Evening and weekend on-call coverage: most deployments after 6p and on weekends

Ability to multi-task

Enterprise mindset is huge

Performance tuning

Currently using Zena for their scheduling tool- not a must have

 

Job Description Summary :

The Database Engineer III designs, implements, and maintains complex databases following industry best practices. This individual protects company assets by safeguarding data integrity, access, and availability according to security procedures and policies and data governance best practices, while also providing service to data consumers. This role may train other employees in the organization on how to access a database and how to make the best use of its contents. Our ideal candidate should have experience in more than one database technology.

 

Job Description

•             Provides technical expertise and helps architect solutions for database platforms, including database design, technology choices, and definition of best practices for developers and consumers of database resources.

•             Performs general database administration and development tasks as needed.

•             Ensures compliance with corporate policy for security and privacy as it impacts database access and privileges. Enforces data integrity best practices to guarantee referential integrity, completeness, and accuracy of database contents. Ensures environmental security and monitoring mechanisms are performing properly to guarantee availability of the data to end users and applications.

•             Ensures business continuity with appropriate backup and recovery processes, failover procedures, and testing to guarantee point-in-time recovery for avoiding all types of data loss, including major catastrophic disaster. Ensures that all backup and recovery processes and procedures are kept current and in alignment with physical production data environments, and that modifications required by business continuity tests are made.

•             Participates in the on-call rotation and accepts and responds to automated notifications of support situations. Supports entire database environment, identifies peer team members for assistance, and provides support and guidance to DBAs in a timely manner to support the service levels required by the business.

•             Communicates business and technical information and developments to users, technical staff, and management in both verbal and written form.

•             Works with developers and end users to improve code and system design.

•             Mentors other team members and directs daily activities.

 

Preferred Qualifications

•             Experience with Unix and Unix scripting languages.
