Job Description

• This is a qualified as an engineer position that is a blend of software engineering, DevOps, automation, and cloud savvy. MUST HAVE PROGRAMMING EXPERIENCE.
• AWS on Linux is a must have.
• Then the resource will need to have experience with a minimum of 3 other tech “asks” listed.

The Work

Third parties provide the base products, but this team  handles everything else. Our work spans project planning, design, engineering, testing, deployment, monitoring, administration, security, operations, maintenance, and support. Every day is different as we balance operational interrupts with planned objectives. IaC, CaC, and automation are key.

Automate what? Data transfer and rehydration for environment parity. Upgrades for faster delivery of new features. Deployments to minimize downtime. Patching for stronger security. Maintenance for streamlined operations. Monitoring and alerting for greater reliability. Alert responses to improve recovery time. Configuration customization for greater self-service. Support tasks for faster turnaround. And on and on.

The Tech

• Third-party Java/Tomcat/PostgreSQL apps in AWS on Linux/EC2/RDS
• Monitoring/alerting with Datadog, Sumo Logic, Uptime, Statuspage
• Deployment via AWS SAM, CloudFormation, SSM
• Code in Bitbucket/git
• Maint/ops via AWS Systems Manager, GNU/Linux/UNIX tools, magic
• Automation with Lambda, Python, REST
• Future aspirations for custom Atlassian add-ons in Java, configs in Ansible or similar, auto-scaling and/or multi-node and containerized deployments

Skills and Experience

• Skills in all the above
• BS in CS or a related field or equivalent experience
• 10+ years of Software Engineering experience reflecting both depth and breadth
• Linux admin background including bash and GNU/UNIX tools
• English: Fluent in spoken and written technical communication
• Python, REST, JSON
• DevOps process and tools
• Production applications support and operations experience

Nice-to-Haves

• Atlassian application administration experience
• AWS, Atlassian, Linux certifications
