JOB DESCRIPTION :                   

The position exists to support the advanced technical work required to meet federal and state requirements for OITS initiatives on behalf of other divisions within KDOT. The person in this position will work independently and as a senior consultant to other technical team members to design, develop and maintain the complex data systems needed for these efforts. The person also functions as a senior consultant to staff and agency leadership to determine requirements and timelines for systems. This position is responsible for analysis, design, programming, and maintenance of applications; design and maintenance of data sources and applications with other KSDOT systems. This position is a first line support to team members and application users by troubleshooting and resolving application issues and data inquiries as assigned. Applications and procedures will adhere to standards and security procedures of the team, BCS Department, and the agency. The tasks of this position directly support the Agency's ability to provide a statewide transportation system to meet the needs of Kansas. The person also functions as a consultant to staff and agency leadership to determine requirements and timelines for systems. This would include researching alternatives for improving work flow efficiency, developing requirements/documentation and designing applications.

Successful completion of 24 hours in computer science coursework or certification and three year experience coding, testing, and debugging application programs or four year experience coding, testing, and debugging application programs. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

 

  • High school diploma or GED required. Preference will be given to candidates with a 4-year college degree.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; Strong organizational skills; Ability to take initiative on evaluating, improving and implementing IT solutions.
  • In addition, a strong working knowledge of computer technology, telecommunications, relational databases and programming languages that support the mission of the agency. This may involve software such as Oracle, DB2, SAS, SQL Server, Visual Basic, Visual Studio, XML, COBOL, JCL, .Net, PLSQL, Crystal Reports, IIS and PeopleSoft.
