Position Role – Mainframe Operations Administrator

Location: Durham NC


Description of Work:
Northrop Grumman Information Systems sector is seeking a Mainframe Operations Support Administrator to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.
The qualified candidate will work with the operations support team that monitors, resolves and escalate if needed operational related issues and problems. 

The successful candidate has an extensive Mainframe support experience that can work independently, ability to analyze requirements, provide operational support, manage priorities, provide identification/fixes for the problems identified, and provide application support, configuration, upgrades and patching.

  • Provide coverage Monday through Friday 3rd Shift (12:00 am through 8:00am).  
  •  Be part of a team responsible for monitoring on a 24x7x365 basis to correct software problems that prevent the continued operation of the online systems.  
  • This work has an impact on the continued operation, performance, and efficiency of all online systems.
  • Work independently and with other personnel to troubleshoot problems that are detected in the online applications. 
  • Communicate with support personnel and report problems and resolutions through the normal channels while ensuring that operational outages are minimized and system response time is kept to a minimum.
  • Analyze and debug WebSphere MQ series performance problems utilizing Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEPS), Introscope, etc.
  • Analyze and debug WebSphere Application Server (WAS) problems including heap usage, garbage collection, and CPU response and backend systems.
  • Troubleshoot other WebSphere related issues utilizing TEPS, and Omegamon.
  • Respond to Hot Terminal, Alerts and email messages identifying problems.
  • Identify and report Z/OS, JES3, Top Secret and other underlying system software problems.
  • Identify and troubleshoot CICS and database problems.
  • Download CICS system and application dumps.
  • Perform CICS system dump analysis and provide recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot DB2, Oracle and IDMS problems. 
  • Demonstrate CICS programming experience using, Java, Common Business Oriented Language (COBOL), or assembly to identify/isolate problems. 
  • Upon determination and resolution of a problem, communicate to the team, management, developers and customers on the issues and action taken.

 

Basic Qualifications:
Minimum knowledge, skills, abilities.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field and 7 years’ IT work experience or Master’s degree in a technical field degree and 5 years IT work experience or minimum of 11 years work experience in lieu of a degree. 
  • 5+ years of Experience troubleshooting WebSphere Application Server (WAS) or (WMQ) problems.
  • 5+ years of Experience identifying and troubleshooting CICS and database problems.
  • 5+ years of Experience monitoring DB2, Oracle database subsystems and CICS to identify, isolate and communicate problems.
  • Must be able to obtain a public trust clearance
  • Must be a US citizen or green card holder


Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates with these skills will be given preferential consideration.

  • Experience using CICSplex and ABEND Aid to identify and isolate problems.
  • Experience using TP monitors like Tivoli, Introscope, Omegaview, to analyze online WebSphere problems.
  • Experience performing heap and/or WebSphere memory analysis.
  • Ability to support WMQ administration on z/OS, Solaris, iSeries and Windows platforms.
  • Understand z/OS 2.1 with regard to the use of the Tivoli Enterprise Managing Server (TEMS) and the Tivoli Enterprise Managing Agent (TEMA) for CICS, DB2, MVS and WMQ on the mainframe.
  • Experience using COBOL and/or ASSEMBLER programming languages.
  • Experience in investigating z/OS, JES3, Top Secret and any other system software problems.
  • Experience identifying and resolving peripheral device and file contention problems, including recommending dynamic changes to CICS region settings to correct or contain CICS problems.
  • Knowledge and experience with the installation, configuration, maintenance and use of the Omegamon XE/ITCAM for Applications monitoring bundle to go from the use of Omegaview to the use of TEMS and TEPS for CICS, DB2, WMQ and MVS.
  • Knowledge and experience with the configuration of the ITM products that will provide a high availability for monitoring of CICS, DB2, WMQ and MVS.
