JOB DESCRIPTION
Details:
- Multiple roles on multiple teams
- Presently have 8 teams working on this platform
- Building a financial platform, very strategic platform to take them closer to being a Tech Company. Project is confidential so cannot speak about it much more than this.
- Will be used by al LOB’s
- Geographically distributed system built using microservices
- Team philosophy is “write code to build things” vs talking about it. Simplicity and elegance is their motto
Skills:
- All work is being done in Scala (need 2+ yrs experience), heavily use functional programming principles<<<
- Overall should be senior level candidates, who can guide and mentor others
- Not big data role, need to have microservice experience
- If they have other functional programming experience (Clojure, Haskell, etc we can try that, but they MUST be open to coding in Scala)
- Kafka for streaming
- NoSQL (Cassandra)
- AWS – at least 1 year with public cloud
- Basic understanding of various services (S3, EC2, RDS, Lambda)
- Docker experience is a MUST, prefer Kubernetes
What You’ll Do:
- Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers with deep experience in immutable, distributed systems, data streaming, and backend Scala based systems using functional programming to create solutions that help meet regulatory needs for the company
- Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, mentoring other members of the engineering community, and from time to time, be asked to code or evaluate code
- Collaborate with digital product managers, and deliver robust cloud-based solutions that drive powerful experiences to help millions of Americans achieve financial empowerment
- Work with a cloud native stack, build on AWS, use technologies like Kubernetes and Serverless
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least 6 years of experience in software engineering
- At least 2 years of experience with functional programming languages (Scala or Clojure or Haskell or Common Lisp)
- At least 1 year of experience with public cloud services (Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud Platform or Microsoft Azure)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree
- 10+ years of experience in software development
- 5+ years of experience with functional Scala
- 4+ years of experience with cloud technologies
- 4+ years of experience with open source frameworks
- 3+ years of experience designing or architecting distributed systems
- 2+ years of experience in Agile practices
