Job Description:
The System Database Administrator's role is to install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software and to provide best practice recommendations regarding database deployments/migrations/upgrades. The majority of the work for this position requires Microsoft SQL Server experience and will require some Oracle database experience.

Strategy & Planning
• Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
• Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.

Acquisition & Deployment
• Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.

Operational Management
• Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
• Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
• Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems.
• Plan and coordinate database engine upgrades.
• Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases.
• Perform database health status and security audits.
• Establish appropriate end-user database access control levels.
• Develop routines for end users to facilitate best practices database use and assist with determining best practices for change management and code review processes.
• Manage and/or provide guidance to all members of the team.

Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certification

• College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or 8 to 10 years equivalent work experience.


Knowledge & Experience
• Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and best practices.
• Extensive technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting Database servers, including SQL Server 2012, 2016, 2017.
• Extensive knowledge supporting Oracle Database environments.
• Extensive experience with developing and deploying SSIS packages.
• Extensive experience deploying and troubleshooting SQL Server Service Broker.
• Extensive experience setting up and troubleshooting SQL Server Availability Groups.
• Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
• Agile Scrum Project management methodology experience.
• Ability to quickly understand the organization's goals and objectives.
• Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws including Payment Card Industry compliance.
