Subject: AppDev SQL DBA

This role will start off remote, but the expectation is that this candidate will need to report onsite in Dallas, Tx as soon as they open their doors, so local is preferred. This is a long term contract, 12+ months.

This person will be an embedded DBA within the AppDev team. S/he will be responsible for the care-and-feeding of non-production SQL Server databases used by the Application Development teams for development and testing of both in-house and supported third-party applications. The person in this role will work with other AppDev DBAs as well as application developers (of varying SQL skill levels), System DBAs, System Engineers, Windows Admins, and Network Engineers to provision new and care for existing clustered SQL Server environments.
This person will be expected to be organized and self-starting. S/he will receive tasks from data architects or service requests and will be expected to own the task from start to finish.
This person will need to work off-hours on pre-scheduled times in order to help with nighttime deployments. S/he may also be asked to join troubleshooting bridges to help production teams with severity issues if they are escalated to the development team.
Required Skills
• 5+ years of SQL Server DBA experience
o Experience with SQL Server versions 2012 and above
• Experience providing solutions on high availability and DR setup, including failover clustering, active-active, active-passive, log shipping, mirroring
• Experience managing transactional and snapshot replication jobs
• Experience with performance tuning of T-SQL using tools like Tuning Advisor, SQL Server Profiler, trace, extended events, and DMVs
• Experience with partitioning
• Experience creating and supporting maintenance plans including backups, re-indexing, statistics, etc.
• Experience with capacity and growth planning
• Experience with SQL Server version upgrades
• Experience with “Always On” SQL Server functionality
• Experience with SQL Server monitoring software like IDERA, Foglight, etc.
• 2+ years’ experience with enterprise scheduling software such as AutoSys, ControlM, ESP, etc.
• 2+ years’ Experience with PowerShell scripting
Preferred Skills
• Experience w/Data Deploy tools such as RedGate or TFS
• Experience w/anonymization and/or data scrubbing algorithms
• Experience with ticketing systems like ServiceNow, BMC, JIRA
• Experience upgrading an existing SQL Server environment to 2017+
• Experience with C#
• Experience with Azure and/or Azure SQL
• Experience with Splunk
