A SharePoint administrator requires knowledge of both SQL Server and Windows Server. Since SharePoint stores all of its data in SQL Server databases, DBA knowledge is critical. However, the Windows Server knowledge required to build and maintain a SharePoint farm is considerable: Windows Server administrator. The DBA skills required are the standard set required for any SQL Server but the features of Windows Server that a SharePoint Administrator needs to have some knowledge of include:
- SP Central Admin All Features Configurations [Applications Management, Service Applications, Etc.]
- Good knowledge in IIS and the architecture of it
- Windows Server Manager
- Active Directory (LDAP, ADLDS, ADAM etc)
- DNS and SMTP
- Network Load Balancing (NLB)
- Firewall (Hardware and software NLB)
- Event Viewer and Performance Monitor
- Should have managed product development assignments that should include managing the technical and functional architecting.
- Proven track record of creating knowledge repository while executing projects
- Ability to work on key initiatives identified by organization from time to time.
- Must support the business development participating in customer conversations and demos.
- Extensive technical supervision and mentoring the technical team
- Responsible & Managing all documentation needs identified during various stages of the project
- Task scheduling and management
- Direct, co-ordinate, exercise functional authority in planning, organizing, controlling, integration and completion of projects
- Provide guidance to the team members for resolving complex technical issues
- Interface with the customers to develop and refine technical specifications
- Possess good understanding of technology and development processes.
