 Use Reverse engineer all data structures and produce a data dictionary
• Fully inventory what is current in the Teradata environment
o Last access / access frequency by application
o Usage by application
o Warnings and errors by time and application
o Review known issues and diagnostics reports (e.g. PDCR reports)
• Analyze the inventory stats and provide improvement recommendations for the new environment, typical areas of analysis will include
o Ampusage
o Skew
o Indexing
o Partitioning
o Compression
o Space Usage
o Block/locking
o Deadlocks
o Direct vs View Access
o Join Conditions
o Unnecessary Data Type transformations or mismatches
o Extra scans due to NULLs
o Highlight any other performance issues
• Document and review improvement recommendations pointing out the pros, cons and effort associated with each to management team
• Work with technical team to implement the agreed improvements
• Assist in testing of BTEQ scripts where required
• Development ETL Solutions using Teradata best practices for data loading, transformations and reporting/analytics delivery
• Deliver sound technical solutions to improve TBC’s Analytical capabilities on Teradata
• Train and mentor team members on Teradata best practices for DW and Information delivery
• Lead Design, Implementation and review sessions for all aspects of DW and Information delivery
• Operations DBA Functions with On-call Support
• Deployments, Tuning, backup restore and all other maintenance activities
DAILY ACTIVITIES:
• ·         Viewpoint Monitoring - closely monitoring of Teradata production / GA overall system performance
• ·         Incident Monitoring - monitoring and resolving incidents from IVANTI.
• ·         Space Monitoring - database and table space monitoring for prod and QA.
• ·         Suspect Query Monitoring - monitoring and tuning long running and skewed queries slowing the system.
• ·         Backup Monitoring - monitoring daily prod backup and resolving issues related to backup.
• ·         Statistics Monitoring - ensuring that all necessary stats are collected on a daily basis to avoid performance issues.

DBA ADHOC TASKS
• User & Security Management - granting access and privileges
• DDL / DML deployments - deploying database objects related to change.

MONTHLY ACTIVITIES:
·        Performance Analysis in Production - auditing production system to improve overall performance.
Below are of the list of value added services that I perform to maintain better performance.
• Check and remove unwanted statistics collection to reduce CPU and IO consumption.
• Check large tables for compression to speed up queries and improve space.
• Check and fix views without locking statements to minimize locking.
• Check and review user privileges. Making sure that there are no user accessing EDW base tables.
• Check and review old database objects to improve space.
• Monitor queries using UNION and recommend if they can use UNION ALL for faster results.
• Monitor FALLBACK tables if they are necessary or not
• Monthly status reporting on performance
