Job Description: Broad Information Technology Services (BITS) is looking for a database administrator who is strong at building out replication and optimizing throughput of on-premise and cloud databases. The ideal candidate is a diligent and creative problem solver, an enthusiastic learner and energized by technical challenges and high-impact work. Responsibilities:
• Design, manage and administer on-premise and cloud databases, including architecture, documentation, long-range requirements, operational guidelines, and protection strategies.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of data across the organization’s databases.
• Define and specify structure and functional capabilities of databases.
• Formulate and monitor policies, procedures and standards relating to database management.
• Optimize database configuration and access.
• Analyze, tune and sustain capacity and performance requirements, resolve database performance and capacity issues.
• Perform database backup and recovery, restore and recover corrupted databases and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures.
• Install, configure and upgrade Oracle, MySQL and MongoDB server software and related products.
• Monitor and troubleshoot problems to ensure continuous operation of databases and related functions.
• Interface with Oracle Corporation for technical support.
• Develop database utilities and automated reporting.
• Some off hours support especially during migrations and/or upgrades.
• Support of 24/7 business operations.
Must Have:
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science
• 5 or more years experience administering Oracle databases
• Recent experience with Oracle Database migration and upgrade to at least Oracle 19c
• Recent experience with Oracle Data Guard including Oracle Data Guard Broker
• Agile/Scrum practices
• Ability to multitask, manage time and follow through with assignments
• Great Communication
Pluses:
• Experience with MySQL and MongoDB administration
• Linux administration experience, especially in relation to database deployments on Linux
• VMWare concepts and experiences running a database in a virtualized environment
• Domain experience in any of the following is desirable: bioinformatics, laboratory information systems (LIMS), and industrial automation
