• Assess and tune the MySQL based Moodle Database
• Provide recommendations to optimize the performance of MySQL database, including changes in settings, schema, queries, etc.
• Design a distributed database system for the Moodle MySQL database and perform the technical and development work to build this system
• Database replication for scale-out
• Study and provide recommendations for moving MySQL database to Postgres; perform feature and performance comparison analysis
• Build a plan and design the migration from MySQL to Postgres if Postgres demonstrates higher performance and scalability than MySQL
• Assist in enabling database encryption for MySQL Moodle Database

Required skills

• Experience in MySQL architecture, monitoring, troubleshooting, scaling and SQL
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Good communication, teamwork and negotiation skills
• Working knowledge of Postgres
• Able to work to tight deadlines under pressure
• Excellent organizational skills, flexibility and adaptability
