Reporting to the Director, Business Intelligence, the Data Engineer is a considerate, analytical engineer who
makes systems speak to each other. With an ever-evolving purchasing, sales, marketing, and distribution
landscape, this role uses their back-end knowledge to inform decision makers while working laterally with
Astral departments and third parties to design, implement, and verify reports & integrations end-to-end.
Requirements
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Elicitation and continuous coordination with key stakeholders to understand the business need for which a
technical solution or process improvement may be necessary
· Cleaning, extracting, transforming, and loading data from JSON, plaintext, csv, and XML sources into the data
warehouse for reporting and analysis
· Developing reports in tabular or graphical format from the data warehouse using BI tools
· Integrating the ERP system with ecommerce, EDI, and third-party systems using AWS serverless architecture
and Java-based resources. Maintaining & extending existing integrations as needed
· Creating automations to monitor system health and uptime using SQL jobs as well as to expedite import,
modification, and reporting of data using desktop or web-based applications
· Ensuring business data is not exposed to unauthorized agents using network security rules, authentication
methods, infrastructure maintenance, and cybersecurity best practices
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
· 2-3 years experience SQL development required – querying database, data modelling, stored procedures,
and database maintenance jobs. SQL Server, MySQL or PostgreSQL
· 2-3 years experience server-side development required – Java, Python, and/or NodeJS development
concentrating in SOAP or REST APIs – JSON & XML, performing CRUD operations on databases, consuming
third-party APIs
· 2-3 years experience with Git version control required
· AWS Lambda, SQS, RDS, S3, DynamoDB, API Gateway, CodePipeline, Cognito experience desired
· Multidimensional data modelling experience desired
· Angular 9+ experience – TypeSCript, CSS/SCSS, HTML web page development desired
· Spring Boot & Maven Java tool experience desired
· Data orchestration tool experience – Apache Nifi or Apache Airflow desired
