JOB DETAIL

Our Client is seeking a Sr. SQL Developer who will play a key role in the development, configuration, implementation of upgrade of Microsoft SQL infrastructure to bring it up to Client's leading edge technology platform standards.  The individual must demonstrate their knowledge of critical thinking and problem-solving skills and in implementing cutting edge technology to solve business problems.

 

Daily Duties and Responsibilities:

  • 50% - Implement effective migration strategy for existing aging MS SQL infrastructure to the latest MS SQL Enterprise technologies, including but not limited to DTS to SSIS migration, DDL/DML code compatibility assessment, code refactoring or redesign.
  • 15% - Develop unit test cases and perform unit testing of the migrated modules.
  • 10% - Analyze and design functional application architecture and specifications.
  • 15% - Maintain and improve the performance of existing codebase.  Maintain existing systems and debug existing source code and polish feature sets.
  • 5%  - Contribute to team development by working in collaboration with existing DEV/QA teams, architects and project leads or team members.
  • 5% - Document results of analysis, developed / refactored codebase and revise existing documentation.

 

Required Skills:

  • 10 years of Extensive experience in developing enterprise scale applications utilizing MS SQL technologies as a database layer.
  • 7 years of Experience in migrations from MS SQL 2005 to MS SQL 2012.
  • 7 years of Experience in DTS/SSIS development and migrations.
  • 10 years of experience programming complex interfaces and processes in a relational database  including structured query language and defined data structures (e.g. DDL and T-SQL).
  • 10 years of experience with all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle, including system analysis, design, coding, testing, debugging and documentation.
  • 5+ experience with optimizing complex MS SQL code base to achieve maximum performance for high volume of transactions and/or large datasets of 1+ TB.
  • Expert in MS SQL DDL/DML coding for Stored Procedures, Triggers, UDF.
  • Knowledge of the SDLC with Scrum utilizing TFS/DevOps.
  • Migration from older to newer versions of / including SQL Server 2005/2012/2014/2016/2019.
  • Expert in MS SQL SSIS/DTS development and deployment.
  • Solid experience / understanding of multi-tier enterprise application development.
  • Knowledge of SQL Profiler and solid experience with performance evaluation and optimizations toolset (e.g. Quest SpotLight, SolarWinds DPA, etc.).
  • Proficient in analysis and documentation of Database models / ERD and T-SQL coding logic.
  • Proficient in using source control / code management (e.g. TFS/DevOps/Redgate).
  • Experience in deployment strategies using automated deployment pipelines (TFS/DevOps).
  • Proficient working with Data Encryption technologies available in SQL Enterprise Edition (field level encryption, TDE, key / certificate management).
  • Capable of delivering system components to be integrated into overall application architecture.
  • Strong knowledge of emerging technologies.  Possesses strong knowledge of application development technologies, tools, and methodologies.
  • Good understanding of how technology relates to the business, market and industry and applies such knowledge to support the needs of the business.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, critical thinking and decision making skills.
  • Must be a creative and innovative thinker with the demonstrated ability to bring new ideas and process improvements to fruition.
  • Strong team player with ability to collaborate with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to lead, develop, and coach a small team of developers.
  • Strong attention to detail with all tasks being carried out to the highest standard.

  • Experience leading a small team of developers. – 5 years.
  • Experience using source code management tools (e.g. TFS/DevOps). – 5 years.
  • Experience with SQL Compatibility assessment toolsets. – 5 years.
  • Experience with large TB+ databases – 3 years.
  • Knowledge of MS SQL Always-On replication technologies.
  • Proficient in Web Service Oriented Architecture.
  • Understanding of software Methodologies such as RUP and Agile/Scrum.
