  • The department of Institutional Research and Academic Planning (IRAP) is a central service unit of the Office of the President. IRAP provides timely,
  • accurate, consistent and reliable information about UC and the environment in which it operates. Through evidence-based analyses, the department supports and guides enrollment planning, policy creation and revision, program and campus budget reviews, statewide higher education studies and UC operations. IRAP also produces the annual Accountability Report, which assesses UC's activities, achievements and operations through data-driven narratives and visualizations.
  • The Business Systems Analyst reports to the Director of Data Infrastructure, Management and Reporting and supports the work of the Data Management team.
  • The Director is responsible for the technical delivery of multiple robust and dynamic reporting and analytics environments as well as the development and maintenance of data transformation rules and file submission and processing for the UC Data Warehouse (UCDW).
  • Under the direction of the Director, the incumbent will support the development of technical solutions. For assigned projects, the incumbent will work with analysts within IRAP, throughout UCOP and the campuses to gather and document requirements for various technical solutions and will frequently serve as the primary interface with the technical team performing the work, lead testing and training and create relevant documentation.
  • The incumbent will apply advanced technical project practices and concepts while leading such projects, which requires an understanding of complex data warehousing issues where trade-offs between the analyst’s desires and technical realities are balanced appropriately.
  • The incumbent will work to specify and support development of a new data validation and testing framework to incorporate a number of data submissions, both from campus and data obtained from external providers, into the data warehouse. These data files are critical to IRAP’s analyses.
  • Data included here are complex longitudinal files for undergraduate students, graduate and professional students, faculty and staff. These longitudinal files are constructed from campus snapshot data submissions and incorporate a number of data feeds into a single analysis data set.
  • The incumbent will be responsible for modernizing the data submission, validation and loading processes for the more than 500 campus data files submitted to UCOP annually. The current system is a patchwork of legacy processes that have varying degrees of robustness. This will involve working with IRAP data analysts, ITS systems analysts and campus data providers to automate file processing, error checking and resolution.
