Position Summary:

The Data Engineer uses skills as an experienced professionals to develop, maintain, and own the current ETL (Extract Transform and Load) processes, which provide mission critical data to the Systemwide Procurement Services department for business operation and strategic planning. The Data Engineer collaborates with UC systemwide procurement teams to identify additional data sources, build and support new ETL processes; develops data pipeline and stages data in the database for internal users to consume; develops analysis, reports, dashboard, and visualizations to support the department needs.

 

Responsibility:

Database & SQL Development – 50%

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and solve issues with ETL processes and SQL queries for new and existing processes.

• Carry out monitoring, tuning, and scheduling for ETL jobs, apply best practices to optimize process and workflow

• Automate data refreshes in lower environments.

• Perform database maintenance tasks, including backups/restores, rebuilding indexes, etc.

• Develop technical specifications for workflow and staging tables for reports and dashboard creation.

 

Data Management & Analysis – 35%

• Understand current source, types, and locations of the available data

• Analyze, manipulate, cleanse and validate data from a variety of internal and external data sources

• Design and develop specifications on data collection

• Develop analysis, reports, dashboard to meet various data requests, communicate and articulate results/findings to stakeholders

• Identify additional data sources that could be leveraged to enhance analysis

 

Process Improvement – 10%

• Understand and document current data work flow and analysis process

• Work with internal and external teams within UC identify gaps and propose new process to address analysis and reporting needs

• Develop and implement pilot programs to test the new process and obtain feedback from stakeholders for further improvement

 

Other Analytical Support – 5%

• Participate in other projects assigned and provide analytical support in the areas of business process analysis, system or procedure testing and implementation, documentation, and client feedback

 

Required Qualifications:

• A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in data analytics and business intelligence field

• Strong analytical skills, ability to independently gather, organize, and perform analytical assignment, including but not limited to data gathering, cleanse, ETL, developing reports, and creating executive summary

• Proficiency with SQL script development (must have), proficient on views, trigger, stored procedures, as well as monitoring, tuning, and schedule of SQL jobs.

• Hands on experience using SQL Server Management Studio and SSIS package, knowledge of database management system

• Proven ability using Tableau, Excel; Smartsheet and SharePoint programming is a plus.

• A self-starter, proactively managing projects timeline, deliverables, issues, and propose solutions, ability to work with multiple projects and priorities.

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to work with cross-functional Teams

 

Education:

• A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent experience
