JOB DETAIL

  • Perform server activities such as backup/restore, product patching, and change management including software and hardware upgrades and patches.
  • Responsible for ongoing maintenance, upgrades, monitoring performance issues, and optimization of resource consumption.
  • Manage application users, groups, Workbooks and Projects, Database Views, Subscriptions, Custom Views, Data Sources, Data Connections, and integration with Active Directory, including Active Directory synchronization maintenance within Tableau servers.
  • Perform administrator duties including publishing reports, promoting and certifying content, creating, modifying, or managing server task schedules, and monitoring server activity and usage statistics to identify possible performance issues and enhancements.
  • Implement performance tuning, standards/best practices, mentoring, metadata management, cluster/distributed management, cache/history management, and scheduling.
  • Design and implement Tableau Server data extracts from various sources and publish for reuse across projects; implement content and dashboard development enabling self-service analytics at scale.
  • Collaborate closely with and operate within the overall I&A Technical Architecture framework designed by the BI Technical Lead.
  • Ensure alignment and collaboration with COBA team and partners, including Information Systems (IS) and I&A Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) teams.
  • Responsible for system design (site creation, designing landing page, site restructuring and other design aspects of the Tableau infrastructure), content management, and designing and implementing security model(s).
  • Responsible for incident management, showstopper resolution, root cause analysis, and escalation to vendor per service agreements for Tableau Server and Desktop.
  • Create administrative dashboards from PostgreSQL DB and reports for tracking server and resource utilization.
  • Conduct Office Hours, monitoring team’s requests for server related questions.
  • Train and enable users in large and small group formats, on reports, dashboards, and data catalog development for Tableau Creators/Developers and end analytic consumers.
  • Responsible for administration of Tableau Licensing and development and documentation of technical policies set up and controls, admin best practices, technical audits.
  • Provide documented progress of work activities and escalate business issues impacting the department.

 

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Management, Informatics, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 1+ year of experience with BI Tool Administration, developing, configuring, and administering Tableau Server with a strong understanding of Tableau architecture and administration, as well as experience in Tableau scripting.
  • Demonstrable practical knowledge in Tableau Server best practices—including administration, security, scheduling, folder/ project management, clustering, and the ability to communicate the pro & cons of each based on strategic implementation goals—and metadata tables with expertise in Tableau platform sizing, troubleshooting, tuning, and disaster recovery.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and meet deadlines within a fast-paced environment while providing clearly documented status updates.
  • Should possess experience developing guidelines, templates, and best practices to assist other analysts and business partners with their own Tableau work.
  • Strong development skills in Tableau and data analytics and visualizations with experience in BI role working specifically with the business, producing analytical reports/dashboards, predictive analytics, ROI calculations demonstrating value of BI is a plus
  • Knowledge in BI tools including ETL, Data Warehousing, other BI tools, and relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle).
  • Should possess good knowledge of Tableau architecture and ability to architect a stable Tableau solution guaranteed for high operational availability.
  • Excellent business communication skills with an ability to work well in a collaborative environment with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Must be a fast learner with high attention to detail and possess a passion for data and analytics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset.
  • Competent with Microsoft Excel and Access and additional Microsoft Office suite software (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Proven ability to document business requirements and ability to design and develop reports.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service orientation.
  • Strong sense of balance and ethics, ability to consistently represent the interests and mission of the DFCI and act on behalf of its current and future patients.
