JOB DETAIL

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Digital Media or related degree
  • Follow UX and IA best practices and the latest trends in web & application coding
  • Experience using the Adobe Creative Suite, including but not limited to Photoshop, Illustrator and/or Fireworks
  • Self-motivated and capable of working in a dynamic environment with changing priorities
  • Able to collaborate with designers and back-end developers
  • A knack for testing and debugging front-end implementations as well as existing front-end code
  • Passion to hand code clean standards, compliant HTML and CSS
  • Critical thinking, documentation of scientific results, communication, project leadership, and pride in work are all skills central to success in this role.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with an intellectually & culturally diverse client base.  We work with scientists and engineers from all over the world.
  • Exceptional organizational skills to coordinate and track multiple projects and processes simultaneously
  • Previous NIH or Federal experience is a plus.

SKILLS AND CONCEPTS

  

  • Design familiarity. You are familiar with web UI design trends and how to take a design template (either as a flat JPEG, layered PSD or AI      file) and translate it into clean, understandable website code, making concept images into coded realities. You know where design ends and coding begins and how these two concepts can complement each other.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud (or CS) applications, including Dreamweaver,      Photoshop, Illustrator, etc., and how to make use of the range of their features and functionality. You know how to use layers and well-organized folders within PS & AI, and their web-friendly design tools.
  • HTML and CSS skills. You know the HTML5 spec and take pride in selecting the most semantically appropriate tags for the job. You know how to separate content, appearance, and functionality. You are experienced with CSS. You have embraced fluid layouts and Responsive Web Design (RWD). You can code for multiple devices & browsers.
  • JavaScript development and debugging, browser compatibility, and testing on mobile devices. Experience with one or more JavaScript frameworks such as jQuery and its associated plugins, Bootstrap, etc.
