JOB DETAIL

The Innovation and Technology Department of San Bernardino County is seeking a motivated contract Linux Administrator. 

The candidate will … 

• Work business hours and provide after-hours support including but not limited to weekends, holidays, and on-call. 

• Provide coverage for other Linux administrators as necessary. 

 

Responsibilities 

• Install, implement, test, and maintain Linux Servers (RHEL). 

• Bash Programming 

• Basic Linux Administration of File Systems. 

• Linux User Management 

• Linux Security, Network and Firewall management 

• Linux Licensing 

• Linux Troubleshooting for User Administration and File Permissions 

• Disaster Recovery preparedness for Linux Servers by maintaining and tuning backup and recovery processes. 

• Installs, configures, and patches for Linux Servers. 

• Identify and troubleshoot performance issues 

• Ensure information security 

• Provide end-user support to technical and non-technical audiences 

 

Skills and Qualifications 

• Strong Linux Administration experience 

• Strong knowledge in writing and maintaining bash shell scripts 

• Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems 

• Strong Analytical and troubleshooting skills 

• Strong Technical communication skills 

• String documentation skills 

• Work well in a collaborative team environment 

• Be able to work on multiple projects and assignments at the same time in an organized manner 

 

Experience and Education 

 Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the last 7 years as a Linux Administrator in a lead role including system specification planning, performance tuning, storage management, back-up, recovery, and Linux clustering. 

• Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed, post high-school coursework from an accredited university or technical school in Computer Information Systems, Business/Public Administration, or a closely related field
