JOB DETAIL

 

Responsibilities will include creating, implementing, and maintaining resilient databases, providing operational support for Microsoft SQL Server 2014/2016/2017/2022 SSDS, SSIS, SSRS and SSAS. Operational support responsibilities for databases includes installing binaries, creating instances and databases, creating/altering database objects, ensuring the availability and performance of databases, creating backups, and performing restores, troubleshooting service issues, determining the causes, and resolving them. The position will also involve management of security and change control for SSDS, SSIS, SSRS and SSAS.

The position will work closely with the Team Lead, other Database Administrators, and Developers. This position will involve participation in on-call rotation for 24/7 support.

Experience with application development (especially, .NET) is a definite plus.


Location:
This position is hybrid reports to the Norfolk Southern HQ building in Midtown Atlanta with easy access to MARTA Train & Bus Service and the interstate.

Education:
4-yr College Degree preferably in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.


Responsibilities:
• Install and patch SQL Server 2014/2016/2017/2022 SSDS, SSAS, SSIS and SSRS.
• Manage security and permissions on SSDS, SSAS, SSIS and SSRS.
• Manage change control for code promotion on Microsoft database resources.
• Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24/7 operational support.
• Troubleshoot service problems; determine root cause and provide resolutions.
• Produce documentation as needed on database standards and policies.
• Monitor database performance and derive solutions for performance problems.
• Provide guidance on good database design and implementation practices to Developers.
• Perform capacity planning for database systems.
• Perform and ensure database backups and restores.
• Participate in DR testing and execution.
• Participate in team environment to share workload and responsibilities as circumstance warrants.
• Ensure compliance with database policies and procedures.
• Perform object creation and alteration according to established change control procedures.
• Maintain working knowledge of relevant operating system, network and storage principles relating to database platforms.

Skills:

Required:

• 5+ years of production support on SQL Server

Preferred:

• 2+ years database development
• 2+ years application development
• 2+ years Windows OS support
