JOB DETAIL

 

The Database Administration team, supporting the Optum CA and Pacific Northwest regions, performs database and production operational functions in support of an enterprise SQL Server environment. We are looking for a Database Administrator with expertise in all features of SQL Server, including database management, Integration Services, Reporting Services, Analysis Services, Clustering, and Always On Availability Groups. This position will be interfacing with multiple business stakeholders to meet objectives, and we are seeking a candidate that is able to work independently with strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.


Job Responsibilities

• Lead various Database Administration activities in support of IT initiatives. This includes planning, coordinating, prioritizing, and delivering on multiple projects, while providing feedback on project status, milestones, and risks.
• Normalize installation, configuration, and management of database servers across the enterprise.
• Standardize SQL Server software versions and implement life cycle management.
• Assess the health of the database environment, troubleshoot issues, and determine course of action for resolution.
• Ensure proactive monitoring, notification, and maintenance is in place to optimize the availability and performance of systems and applications.
• Perform database management activities with planning for security, performance, and scalability.
• Automate operational processes.
• Provide solutions for high availability and disaster recovery of critical databases.
• Perform capacity planning and management to ensure databases are adequately configured to support business growth.
• Facilitate dialog across functional areas and provide consultative direction.
• Deploy system and application database changes in accordance with change management procedures.
• Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, to both technical and non-technical teams, and all levels of management.


Required Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree or proven work experience. Technical training and some college will be considered.
• 10+ Years of SQL Server Database Administration experience.
• 7+ Years of SQL language and Transact-SQL experience.
• 5+ Years of SQL Server Always On Availability Groups experience.
• 5+ Years of SQL Server Integration Services, Reporting Services, and Analysis Services experience.
• 3+ Years of experience automating processes with PowerShell.
• 3+ Years of experience with 3rd party database monitoring solutions.
• 3+ Years of experience with 3rd party database backup solutions.
• 2+ Years of experience with SQL Server on a Cloud platform.
• Experience with SQL Server 2012 thru 2019.
• Thorough troubleshooting and debugging skills using native SQL Server tools.
• Must be able to clearly communicate, verbally and in writing, to both technical and non-technical teams, and all levels of management.
