Oracle DBA – Overview

    • Looking for a Sr. Oracle DBA
    • Srong with Oracle
    • DevOps Experience
    • Good oral and written skills
    • Backups and recoveries
    • Exadata on prem
    • Openshift not required but nice to have
    • Cloud is not a massive consideration, but the DevOps and terraform piece is a space they're going to
    • Moving data centers from one DC to another, most things are set up in VMware, will be working on moving their DBs during that migration
  • Day to day
    • Everything from patching oracle to support for users, creating tables, rolling out new DBs, doing some migrations between redhat 7 to redhat 8
  • Onsite/remote
    • One monthly meeting that is onsite at the Best Buy campus
    • Like to see the DBAs show up for that, but not technically required
    • There are some occasions where the DBAs will come on site where they'll do work at night
  • Team Size
    • 8 folks on the team, 2 principals, couple of seniors, couple associates
    • Primary on call, secondary on call. ON call wouldn't come up for the first two three months
  • Division between cloud and on prem?
    • Very little azure to start with, all primary dbs are on prem
  • Geography
    • Within the 5 state region as it is CTH

Job Description: 
HealthPartners is currently hiring for a Contract-to-Hire Oracle Database Administrator. This role develops solutions within HealthPartners predefined database architecture. This position works closely with application developers to identify needs and set up appropriate pipelines to maintain the effectiveness and efficiency of the database. The engineer is responsible for functions and automation that pertain to development, analysis, performance tuning, and modeling of data.
Required Qualifications:

  • 4-year college degree in Computer Science, Math, Engineering, or related field OR 3+ years IT related experience
  • Self-learner with desire to solve difficult problems.
  • 2+ years' experience SQL and PL/SQL or T-SQL programming
  • 2+ years' experience with Unix shell, Perl, or OS scripting language
  • 2+ years' experience with performance tuning
  • Strong knowledge of operating systems (i.e., Windows, Linux)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience doing database backup and recovery.
  • Available to work outside normal business hours, including weekends and be on-call (7 days x 24 hours)
  • Effectively use Microsoft tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years' experience with DevOps or database administration
  • Experience creating DevOps and Automation (i.e., Ansible, Jenkins, Git) solutions.
  • Experience with OpenShift
  • Experience with Liquibase
  • Experience with Azure Public Cloud
  • Experience working in an agile/scrum environment.
  • Administration of Oracle Exadata appliance.
  • Oracle Certified Professional - OCP DBA Professional
  • Experience with MySQL and Microsoft SQL Databases

Hours/Location:

  • M-F; Days
  • May work remotely but will prefer local/regional applicants for occasional onsite needs.
  • Will participate in an after-hours on-call rotation.

Accountabilities:

  • Automates the creation and maintenance of databases for all environments.
  • Provides primary DB support for implementing, upgrading, and maintaining the DBMS (Oracle) environments.
  • Develops modern technologies and techniques to optimize database stability, resilience, and security.
  • Monitors and resolve application connectivity and DB interface issues; proactively working with other support teams to ensure that application problems do not adversely affect production operations.
  • Collaborates with application developers and vendors to report and resolve problems.
  • Implements and tests database backup and recovery technology / procedures for database environments.
  • Mentors and educates HealthPartners technical staff, DB users and vendors in techniques to optimize query performance.
  • Ensures compliance of all DB security standards in collaboration with IS&T Security Management.
  • Debugs problematic database issues, provide analysis for future enhancements and development; proactively maintaining effective and efficient database structures and system processing.
  • Forecasts and analyzes future capacity needs and develops tools and utilities to mitigate future capacity issues.
