Arunachala Logistics, one of South India's leading logistics companies based in Hyderabad, is looking for a numbers-driven, experienced Head of Purchasing to be responsible for the complete procurement activities of its upcoming retail business that will be launched in both offline (physical) and online (eCommerce) channels.


The retail business would be a hybrid between a supermarket and a hypermarket, offering a wide range of consumer essentials, including groceries & staples, fruits & vegetables, packaged goods & processed foods, seafood & meats, home care & personal products, and other general merchandise.


The ideal candidate will have solid experience in developing, leading and executing purchasing strategies for a leading grocery retailer or supermarket chain. Success in this role lies in carrying out cost-effective purchase of all items as detailed in the procurement plan while ensuring quality control and compliance with the companys policies and procedures.


This position is based in Hyderabad, Telangana, and requires periodic travel to various markets to explore and meet potential suppliers or vendors that can provide timely supply of quality goods at sensible prices.

Research, select and purchase the right products from the right places at the right prices

  • Work closely with the Chief of Retail to prepare a procurement plan based on identified or forecasted levels of demand
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory goods ordered and received and ensure that stock levels are kept at appropriate levels to fulfil the needs of the retail business throughout the year
  • Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses, minimize the risk of obsolete and slow-moving stock, and ultimately, improve cost-effectiveness or profitability
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors who meet requirements or standards of quality, timeliness, and price
  • Handle contracts effectively while negotiating good prices, timelines, etc. and escalate any discrepancies to suppliers and management
  • Communicate status updates to senior management on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  • Stay up to date on supermarket retail trends and apply this knowledge to make smart buying decisions that support business growth




  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration (BBA), or related field (B.Com, etc.)
  • 10+ years of purchasing management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and rapport-building social skills
  • Sharp business acumen with great negotiation skills
  • Quick-thinking problem solving skills and an analytical mindset
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Basic computer skills: performing calculations in Excel, executing purchase orders in ERP, and so on
  • Fluency in Telugu and English
  • Willingness to travel occasionally


Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA)
  • Experience with supplier management systems or supplier portal
  • Prior experience as a purchasing agent or purchasing manager in an omnichannel (or multi-channel) retail business
  • Basic understanding of Hindi
