Job Title: Business Analyst

The Group:  Morningstar Workplace & Retirement group provides investment advisory and management solutions to the broader U.S Retirement market including retirement plan providers, plan sponsors, advisors/consultants, and retirement plan participants. Its products and services enable broad access to and personalization of retirement savings advice. There are two broad Business segments within the group - Fiduciary Solutions and Managed Accounts.

The Role:  We are looking for a Business Analyst to join the Workplace & Retirement Solutions technical product development team. This position is based out of our Mumbai office. The Business Analyst will work closely with the product owners and product manager/s across the Fiduciary Solutions & Managed Accounts squads and is expected to play a pivotal role in executing on the product development roadmap. The Business Analyst will maintain active coordination with Chicago based teams in addition to working closely with the local Mumbai product development team. The role primarily involves business analysis, requirement gathering & documentation.

Workplace & Retirement Solutions includes Retirement Manager, Fiduciary Services and Morningstar Plan Advantage (MPA). Retirement Manager is a web application that helps employees reach their retirement goals by offering advice on how much to save, identifying when to retire, and allocating their retirement account to the appropriate investment options. Fiduciary Services and MPA help advisors and/or plan sponsors select and monitor a retirement plan line up for retirement plan participants.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather requirements from the business team, stakeholders, global product leads & clients
  • Create detailed functional specifications and convey the business requirements and functional specifications to the engineering team via comprehensive documentation & discussion sessions.
  • Act as a first point of contact for the local engineering team to clarify any doubts around requirements
  • Work with the QA team to define testing strategies & review test cases
  • Assist product owners in estimation and work breakdown exercises with the engineering team
  • Perform other product exercises like data mapping, user acceptance testing, and As- Is’ & ‘To-Be’ documentation
  • Act as a domain and functional expert for the local development team
  • Work on strengthening product level documentation
  • Assist in defect resolution, when needed
  • Gradually take additional responsibility of co-owning the ‘Product Roadmap Management’ and ‘Release Management’. It will include, but not limited to the following:
  • Managing or helping prioritize multiple competing requests from varied stakeholders
  • Interacting with a variety of colleagues (both on the business and technical side) to make our Products more sustainable, usable, in addition to developing more features/functionalities which delights our end clients
  • Interacting with product owners across squads to help prioritize work (dependency management), and thus to help us deliver on our key results to meet business objectives
  • Navigating the sea of ideas from across team members to ensure recommendation/idea add to product success

Skill & Experience Required

  • Degree in Finance or any other Certifications in Finance. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with the financial services industry & basic knowledge of Financial Instruments/Investment Vehicles
  • 3-5 years of business\data analysis experience, preferrable in Financial Services domain
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills
  • Having a go-getter attitude, being self-directed, detail orientated & possessing good interpersonal skills are few of the basic skill set required for this role
  • Excellent requirement writing/documentation skills. Ability to structure the requirements appropriately so that those are easily understood by Engineering team
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to connect with global colleagues towards late evening India hours
  • Coordination & Collaboration with global teams
