What Part Will You Play
- Works in close liaison with more experienced Database Administrators (DBAs) to learn processes and techniques for testing database software, utilities, and patches in a test environment. Observes more experienced DBAs during the migration of tested/approved database software, utilities, and patches to a production environment.
- Observes and supports more experienced DBAs to learn how to properly complete authentication and authorization requests by creating/purging/maintaining user accounts, adding/deleting/modifying table and data permissions and performing and/or setting up scheduled database audit procedures to track the who/when changes are made or new items are created.
- Learns established database back-up tasks by assisting as directed. Observes a more experienced DBA during a disaster recovery and/or recovery exercises to build a familiarization with the database recovery tasks.
- Supports more experienced DBAs with storage and capacity planning by executing established reports and gathering additional data as directed.
- Observes more experienced DBAs to learn basic database tuning, optimizing, and monitoring techniques.
- Observes and occasionally supports more experienced DBAs during application failures to learn troubleshooting techniques.
- Gathers data/reporting to support the production and maintenance of operational database documentation, such as SQL Disaster Recovery, SQL Recovery Presentation, Naming Standards, Performance and Tuning.
- Understanding of Oracle database architecture along with hands on experience on Oracle RAC, ASM, Dataguard.
- Hands on experience on applying Oracle quarterly patches. In-place and out of place patching knowledge is preferable.
- Should have very good troubleshooting skills
