Roles and Responsibilities

 

 

To accomplish the primary goal of communicating complex medical information in clear and compliant writing, the Medical Writer will be responsible for:

  • Researching and understanding the nature of the rare disease that they are covering
  • Compiling, writing, reviewing, and editing deliverables related to medical strategy, scientific communications, expert identification, and engagement, training, and publication of preclinical and clinical research for specialty and broader audience. -Examples of deliverables include, but are not limited to, target product profiles, strategic planning, literature reviews, gap analyses, training content, advisory board content and summaries, scientific posters, platform presentations, primary manuscripts, reviews, etc.
  • Meeting standards and requirements to ensure that all deliverables are in accordance with current regulations and guidelines
  • Achieving publication and medical communication goals
  • Staying current with medical literature and advancements

Job Description:

The Medical Writer will use scientific knowledge and writing skills to communicate technical medical science information effectively and clearly in writing with a focus on rare disease.

The Medical Writer will be expected to:

  • Develop and maintain detailed knowledge of assigned therapeutic area(s), client, and competitor product(s)
  • Be knowledgeable of the compliance/regulatory environment eg, GPP3 and international standards for disclosing medical/scientific content
  • Independently develop high-quality, scientifically accurate, strategically aligned, ethical, and compliant content to meet client briefs across a variety of project types
  • Support the preparation for, and participate in, client meetings and teleconferences
  • Contribute to strategic plan development
  • Follow internal and client processes to deliver all projects to agreed specifications and deadlines
  • Contribute scientific content to new business activities and participate in pitch presentations.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A keen interest in rare diseases
  • A passion for helping rare communities who need help the most
  • PhD in life sciences, PharmD, MD (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • At least 2 years medical communications or publications agency experience
  • A keen eye for detail encompassing scientific content and editorial standards
  • An ability to clearly communicate sometimes challenging science into understandable medical communications
  • A strong command of the English language
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas, both orally and in writing
  • An ability and desire to interact confidently and collaboratively with colleagues, clients, and external experts
  • Ability to manage workload across multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Experience using online and other data sources eg PubMed
  • Prior experience in rare disease research/publications/communications is of special interest
  • Experience in using graphing and referencing software
  • Current CMPP certification
  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
